Ozzi Kleen Trade Mission to India

India faces a desperate water shortage as water resources are depleting while the demands for water are rapidly rising. The Indian waste water industry provides a huge opportunity for innovative technologies and is estimated to be worth approximately USD 420 million and growing 18% every year. The key drivers for growth are:

• Decreasing water quality and users having to go for ground water
• Environmental pressures on waste water discharge from government
• Limited availability of water forcing users to go for reuse and recycling of water
• Growth in industrial sectors
• Rapidly rising population 

Water has become a crucial commodity, especially for industrial and commercial use. Water quality coupled with stringent waste water discharge regulations has paved the way for exponential growth but the challenge for new entrants is that the Indian waste water industry still suffers from lack of regulatory compliance.

In June 2011 Ozzi Kleen joined a Water and Waste water Mission to India facilitated by Trade & Investment Queensland. In India the Queensland water sector is recognised as an international provider of innovative and best-practice technologies and services.

The objective of participating in the trade mission was to gain an in-depth understanding of the needs of the market, identify key industry stakeholders and to meet potential joint venture partners. The mission started in Ahmedabad which is the capital of Gujarat state where we met with the Confederation of Indian Industry, established waste water companies, and various local and state government authorities. We then moved onto to Hyderabad, capital of Andhra Pradesh where we also met with local and state bodies, engineering companies in the waste water industry and the Indian Green Building Council which is housed in the first green building in India. Finally we moved onto Bangalore the capital of Karnataka state where our meetings focused on industry water associations and local government authorities.

From this trip we identified that the market awareness for water reuse and discharge in India is growing and with the right technology it’s a great time to enter the Indian waste water market.
